In January of 2019 I attended an SCBWI Illustrator Intensive with concept book illustrator Salina Yoon and agent Christy T. Ewers of the Cat Agency. Christy's homework for the class was to develop concepts and illustrations for an 8-year-old character named Artie. Artie is the smallest boy in his class. He is confident but is actually shy and uses his humor to mask it. He has 3 older sisters who either torment him or ignore him and a rescue dog named Bird with whom he confides all the things he doesn't tell people.
